Dickey's Bridge, near Avon
Between Valley Stream and the crossroads at Avon, we have a small scene that crosses the "fourth wall" between prototype and model. Everyone says that Woodland Scenics ballast is made from ground-up walnut shells, but maybe not . . . .
New, we come to the distinctive area at Dickey's Bridge. An early version of the area around Dickey's Bridge -- no trees, and the bright yellow motor truck wasn't even any good as a stand-in model.
This is much better. There are trees in place, and the absurd truck is replaced with an ox-drawn log sledge. To be perfectly honest, the runners on the sledge are designed for winter, but it seemed made for this scene, so it stayed! Note the wolves closing in. This is rural Maine in 1919 -- still very much a wilderness.
