And here's the prototype:

Salmon Hole Prototype

I will admit that steamboats never came up the Sandy River -- too shallow and too many rocks.  However, I have always had a fascination with steamboats, especially sternwheelers, and when I saw THIS KIT from Kitwood Hill Models in the UK, I knew that I had to have one.  Thanks to the geniuses at the United States Post Office, the mail carrier who delivered the package knocked on my door (very softly), didn't wait for an answer, and instead of holding it for pick up at my local post office SENT IT BACK TO ENGLAND.  Simon Cox at Kitwood Hill was very good about the whole thing, and when it got back to him, he mailed it back to me, at no charge.  Bottom line, the model made three crossings of the Atlantic Ocean (by air), so it probably has traveled more miles than the prototype ever did.

A few more shots of the bridge, looking down at the water -- river bottom painted with various blues and greens, followed by many coats of gloss medium.
