
David Edwin Stone serves as the Director, Strategic Initiatives and Online Learning at Southern Polytechnic State University, where he has led online and technology enhanced learning initiatives since 2010. David has been a director at Southern Polytechnic since 2001 when he was hired as the Director of the Center for Instructional Technology. Since 2001 he has worked with academic departments to develop university capacity to offer online and technology enhanced learning. David's current areas of focus include the development of student centered services and process for online students, as well as strategic planning and marketing to grow online programs.
David earned a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Georgia State University where he also received a Master of Science in Instructional Technology. David earned his Bachelor of Science - Computer Science from Southern Polytechnic. David has taught on-campus, online, and hybrid courses, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. David has been active in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach programs for middle and secondary students in the State of Georgia, including the Georgia BEST Robotics competition and Future City.
David's research interests include the transformation of higher education and learning environments (including virtual worlds). Research activities include international research in the area of English as a second language via the use of virtual environments in China, in addition to research conducted in the area of organizational change and development within the context of higher education.
