Leigh Sharma

I am the newest Assistant Professor of Psychology at SPSU. In 2011, I graduated
with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Iowa, and I spent the last
year as the Substance Use Disorder Postdoctoral Fellow at the North Florida/South
Georgia Veterans Health System in Gainesville, Florida.
Clinically, my interests lie in behavioral, substance use and personality disorders,
specifically in the treatment of these disorders with third-wave behavioral therapies
(e.g., Dialectical Behavior Therapy). My research focuses on the impulsigenic personality
traits (i.e., those traits that manifest in impulsive behavior); personality assessment;
and the trait-behavior link. As part of my dissertation, I lived for several months
in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, collecting data relevant to the relationship between
personality and intimate partner aggression in rural Indian women.
In the picture is my dog Albus, a registered service animal. He accompanies
me to all of my classes; if you see us around SPSU, I encourage you to introduce yourself
to us!
