I am a professor in the Mathematics Department at SPSU. My Ph. D. in mathematics is from the University of Virginia. My B.A., with a major in mathematics and minor in philosophy, is from Hunter College of the City University of New York. I started teaching as a graduate student in 1982 and, besides the University of Virginia and SPSU, have taught at Duke University, Indiana State University, Georgia Tech, and l'Université de Technologie à Belfort-Montbélliard in France.
My mathematical interests are Lie theory, geometry, history, and the connections between mathematics and culture.
