Welcome to my personal web page. I am currently the Dean of the Extended University and Chief Operating Officer of
the Southern Polytechnic Applied Research Corporation (SPARC). I am also a tenured
member of the faculty in the Department of Industrial Engineering Technology.
Extended University resides within Academic Affairs but it is made up of four units that "extend" beyond the traditional academic programs of study. These areas include:
1) Continuing and Professional Education - This unit offers non-academic credit courses to students and the general public on topics ranging from Microsoft Office to Cisco Certified Network Administration.
2) English as a second Language - This unit, operated by a third party vendor, ELS, provides English language instruction to international students preparing for higher education in the United States or work opportunities that require English proficiency.
3) eCore — short for electronic core-curriculum—allows University System of Georgia (USG) students the opportunity to complete their general education requirements via an online environment. eCore courses are taught entirely online, except for the occasional proctored exam. eCore courses are designed, developed, taught and supported by faculty and staff from the USG.
4) Office of Sponsored Programs - This unit supports the Faculty and Staff in the pursuit of grant and contract funding from external sources. The unit provides pre-award services such as proposal preparation and budgeting as well as post-award services such as budget administration and reporting.
Southern Polytechnic Applied Research Corporation (SPARC) is a 501(c)(3) corporation and supporting organization of the University. SPARC serves as a contractual and administrative front-end to the University for most sponsored programs.
